HAIKUS ON DECK!
Berets at the ready! The international fest bridging artists from Spain and the U.S. through poetry — Kerouac Vigo Poetry Festival — is back in NYC just in time for National Poetry Month.
Amongst other events taking place all week, The Haiku Guys + Gals are taking over East River ferries for Poetry on Board. You might’ve seen the artistic collective around the city typing up haikus for passerbys on their typewriters. On Friday April 6th, you can go up to any of the 10 poets on board for your own custom haiku. You won’t want to miss this “photo booth for the soul.”
The performance starts at 4:19 pm in Greenpoint, and crosses the East River to Wall St / Pier 11 at 4:46 pm.
Later that evening, throw down at a haiku showdown. In collaboration with the Kerouac fest, the haiku crew is closing the week with The Haiku Duel. And this year, it’s going nationwide. The battle of word gladiators will be held at The Arlo Hotel in NYC and at York Manor in LA.
One part poetry slam.
One part improv comedy show.
One part DJ dance party.
100% creative energy + instant inspiration.
This isn’t any old poetry reading. 16 performers will battle each other in 17 syllables until a winner emerges. The last one standing walks away with $500. Yes, cold hard cash.
Exclusively for our app members, they’re offering BOGO tickets when you use the code I<3NewStand. The event has sold out five times in a row in NYC so hustle, people!
Doors open at 7:00 pm, dueling begins at 8:00 pm, and the after party happens at 11:30 at a secret spot TBA.
